Quail Population

1106Mississippi’s Quail population has dropped by 70 percent since 1960. There are 22 quail hunting lodgers and shooting preserves scattered around our state. Wildlife experts cite the following factors as contributing to the demise of Mississippi’s wild quail population: fire ants, coyotes, brush burning, livestock, mono-agriculture ( such as grass and pine tree farms), insecticides, reduction of food sources and urban sprawl.
