Townies Get Tacky 'Round the Tannenbaum

Garish garb and live music benefit local Red Cross chapter

Christmas parties with a decidedly “tacky” dress code are all the rage of late, but there’s an argument to be made that the biggest butt-ugly yuletide soiree in Oxford is the Tacky Townie Christmas party held annually at Proud Larrys’. The event’s spirit of giving is as strong as your granddaddy’s egg nog as local musicians contribute their lyrics and licks—for a good time second only to witnessing Emmet Otter’s Jug Band rollick at Doc Bullfrog’s Riverside Rest.
This Friday, December 7, at 8 p.m., the tunes turn up and the haberdashery gets hideous at the fifth annual Tacky Townie Christmas with performances by Jimbo Mathus, George McConnell, the Minor Adjustments, Rocket 88, Moon Pie Curtis & Will Smith and 34th Street.
Admission is $10, and proceeds will benefit the Northwest Mississippi Chapter of the American Red Cross and Interfaith Compassion Ministry.
