The Ole Miss Rebels picked up where they left off on Wednesday night, as the bats came to life in the first inning against the Rhode Island Rams.  As the Rebels defeated the Rams 8-1 in the series opener.

No. 8 Ole Miss (5-0) scored five runs on five hits in their first time at the plate having the whole lineup come up to bat.

Coach Mike Bianco commented on his squad playing offense.

“ First time we have ever had nine quality at bats in a row to lead off a game with Preston Overbey ending the inning. It was just a big first inning,” Bianco said.

Auston Bousfield had a big night at the plate going two for four with a triple and a double with one RBI and one run scored.

In the second inning two runs were scored and the final run was plated by the Rebels in the third inning.

Rhode Island (0-4) got their lone run off of a single and  three back to back walks given up by Ole Miss pitcher Bobby Wahl.

Wahl threw five complete innings giving one run on two hits, striking out four batters, while walking a total of six Rams he faced.  Wahl moves to two and zip on the season with the win.

The Rebels used a total of three pitchers in the game only giving up a total of four hits, striking out six and walking a total of seven batters.

Ole Miss and Rhode Island will meet in game two tomorrow at 1:00 P.M. first pitch, with Mike Mayers going for the Rebels and Sean Furney on the mound for the Rams.
