Kiwanis Club of Oxford Marks Tenth Anniversary of Dictionary Donations
Oxford Elementary Third Graders Receive New Dictionaries
The Kiwanis Club of Oxford donated brand new dictionaries to the Oxford Elementary School third grade class recently. This is the tenth year the Kiwanis Club has made a donation to Oxford Elementary School students.
This year, third graders had the chance to meet Kiwanis Club Project Leader Dr. Jackson Taylor before receiving new dictionaries. Dr. Taylor spoke with the students about why the civic organization felt it was important that each student thad their very own dictionary.
“One of the objects of Kiwanis is to aid the children,” says Dr. Taylor. “We serve most of the students in a variety of ways in the Oxford schools. We want to equip them with an educational tool they can use for learning the rest of their life.”
Fellow Kiwanis Club member, John Arrechea, accompanied Dr. Taylor to the donation service at Oxford Elementary School.
“We are thrilled every year when the Kiwanis Club comes to hand out dictionaries,” says LaTonya Robinson, Principal of Oxford Elementary School. “Every third grade child receives a dictionary and is allowed to keep it when they leave [Oxford Elementary].”
