Chief East Says OPD Aggressively Investigating Double Homicide

6:16 p.m. – The Oxford Police Department announced at a press conference that an arrest has been made. Regis Mister, 25, son of the deceased, is being held at the Lafayette County Detention Center on two counts of murder. Mister is the family member who initially called the police this morning. However, East said that during the course of the investigation today, it became apparent that Mister was a suspect.

Why Mister allegedly killed his mother and younger brother is still unknown. We do know that he was previously employed by the Yalobusha Sheriffs Department, but was recently terminated (exact dates of employment unknown). East also released that a handgun was used in the incident, but did not have any more information about the weapon.
