Rebels To Compete At High-Level Indoor Track Meet

Ole Miss is in the Big Apple for Friday and Saturday’s Armory Collegiate Invitational presented by NYRR at one of the most highly regarded indoor track facilities in the world.
A select group of the top athletes from the No. 21 Ole Miss men and the Rebel women’s squad will match up against the top athletes from more than 100 other universities and colleges in what is being touted by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association as the Division I National Meet of the Week.
Other nationally ranked men’s teams include No. 1 Arkansas, No. 5 Wisconsin, No. 8 Arizona, No. 10 Alabama, No. 14 Cornell, No. 15 Mississippi State and No. 25 BYU. Ranked women’s teams include No. 6 Arkansas, No. 11 Kansas, No. 15 South Carolina and No. 17 Mississippi State.
“There a lot of top-ranked teams at this meet, and we’re looking forward to the talent that will be in New York this week,” Rebel head coach Brian O’Neal said. “It’s a great opportunity for our young men and women to compete on a big stage at the Armory.”
The meet begins Friday at 9 a.m. ET and continues through early evening on Saturday at the Armory, which hosts such major events as the Millrose Games and the New Balance Games and is the home of the National Track & Field Hall of Fame. Friday’s top events include the men’s and women’s 60-meter dash and 60-meter hurdles, women’s long jump and men’s distance medley relay. Top events on Saturday include the men’s and women’s 200 meters, mile run, 3,000 meters and 4×200 relays, the men’s pole vault, men’s weight throw and men’s 4×400 relay.
About midway through this indoor season, Ole Miss athletes have produced some of the nation’s top marks. The Rebels are led by junior Sam Kendricks, the reigning NCAA outdoor pole vault champion and a candidate for The Bowerman, college track & field’s highest individual honor.
Kendricks leads the NCAA, ranks tied for first among Americans and tied for 18th among all pole vaulters in the world this season with his school-record mark of 18-4.75 from the UAB Blazer Invitational. He has won the event at all four meets this year and set meet records in the competitions hosted by UAB, Auburn and Vanderbilt.
Freshman Kailo Moore, a running back on the Ole Miss football team, will be making his college track debut this weekend. The two-time Mr. Mississippi Track & Field honoree and 13-time state champion in high school is slated to run the 60 and 200 in New York.
