Soon Oxford High School (OHS) parents will have a chance to sit in their child’s classroom seat for an introductory technology lesson during two special parent night events. The parent-only events will focus on Technology 101 and provide parents with hands-on experience using the very technology their children use as part of their everyday academic experience.
The parent night events, held at Oxford High School, 101 Charger Loop, will be split into two nights based on what grade a student is in:
• Tuesday, September 9, 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Parents only of OHS freshmen and sophomores
• Thursday, September 11, 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Parents only of OHS juniors and seniors
“We encourage parents to come on the parent night that impacts their student because information will be geared towards the grade that the student is in,” said Oxford High School Principal Mike Martin. “These events are planned for our high school parents only, so we ask that students do not attend the parent-only events.”
During the come-and-go event, mini-sessions will be offered on various technology topics such as Schoology, PowerSchool, and introductory use to the MacBook Air laptop. The twenty-minute sessions will also feature a question and answer segment at the end, so that parents can gather more information related to technology from school officials.
“We want our high school parents to be able to have the basic skills and technology know-how on the topics they are
interested in. They do not have to attend certain sessions, and they are allowed to come and go,” said Martin.
In order to participate in a parent night event, school officials say that parents must bring certain items in hand for the special parent night events: their child’s MacBook Air laptop and their child’s school student Username and Password. Parents do not have to sign up to attend, and the event is free to Oxford High School parents and guardians.
Event parking is offered in the school campus parking lot with the mini-sessions taking place at the end of each wing
adjacent to the parking lots and the cafeteria. “When parents walk into the high school, they will see guidance maps at each school entrance with classroom details of where individual sessions are being held,” said Martin.
