Oxford School District teachers pinned as “ambassadors for their profession” will receive recognition as their school’s 2015 Teacher of the Year during the OSD Board of Trustees regularly scheduled meeting on Jan. 26. The Oxford School District Board of Trustees meeting begins at 5 p.m. in the Oxford Middle School Lecture Center at 222 Bramlett Boulevard in Oxford.

As part of the annual Oxford School District Teacher of the Year award program, each school in the district honors their very own Teacher of the Year. The following school teachers represent all the outstanding teachers at their school as their school’s 2015 Teacher of the Year:

  • 2015 Bramlett Elementary School Teacher of the Year: Mary Beth Moore
  • 2015 Oxford Elementary School Teacher of the Year: Paula Whitaker
  • 2015 Della Davidson Elementary School Teacher of the Year: Kimberly Price
  • 2015 Oxford Intermediate School Teacher of the Year: Erica Avent
  • 2015 Oxford Middle School Teacher of the Year: Ellen Douglas
  • 2015 Oxford High School Teacher of the Year: Kendedrick Jones
  • 2015 Scott Center Teacher of the Year: Minnie Gates-Powell
  • 2015 Oxford Learning Center Teacher of the Year: Dabney Hobart

“W. B. Yeats said, ‘Education is not the filling of a bucket, but the lighting of a fire,’ and that’s what education means to our outstanding teachers,”OSD Superintendent Brian Harvey said. “They light the fire of learning for our students. We are fortunate to have them on our instructional team in our school district.”

The 2015 Oxford School District Teacher of the Year will be announced at the Jan. 26 Board of Trustees meeting. The 2015 Oxford School District Teacher of the Year will then participate in the Mississippi Department of Education’s Teacher of the Year award process.
