Unconfirmed Sources, Posts Suggest IHL Will Renew Chancellor Dan Jones’ Contract
Usually reliable sources have told HottyToddy.com the board of trustees for Mississippi’s Institutions of Higher Learning will mend its fences with Chancellor Dan Jones, who will remain at Ole Miss.
Social media and political wags are saying the vote has been taken, or will be made tomorrow, to continue Dr. Jones in perhaps a 7-5 vote in his favor.
Five days ago, the board voted 9-2 not to renew Jones’ contract, but a fire storm of opposition from alumni, faculty, parents and students erupted. Some 2,500 supporters demonstrated in favor of Jones in The Circle in front of the Lyceum at noon Wednesday.
The Ole Miss jet, normally used by Chancellor Jones, departed Oxford at 1:53 p.m. and landed in Jackson at 2:20 Wednesday. Twitter posts say the plane has returned to Oxford with Jones as of 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, and sources say negotiations are still ongoing.
HottyToddy.com publisher Ed Meek said “we want to make it clear that these are unconfirmed reports fueled by the new reality of the Internet and social media.”
Matt Wyatt, a sports commentator on Head 2 Head, Supertalk Mississippi, tweeted that he received a call giving an unconfirmed report.
Sam Hall and the Clarion-Ledger also confirmed the report Wednesday afternoon.
After the first decision last Thursday, board vice president Alan Perry cited spending and contract procurement concerns at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
We will update this story as we learn more information.

I surely hope you don’t use Matt Wyatt as a source! 😉

Why undermine the effectiveness of Dr. Jones? Mississippi politics often seems determined to reject leaders who are in fact leaders. I strongly stand with students & others who are rallying in support of Dr. Jones.

The Clarion-Ledger didn’t confirm “the report” or anything else, other than that Dan Jones was currently in Oxford. They didn’t even confirm that he’d been to Jackson or not. Did you read the tweet before writing that? And you quote your own editor in the story? What?

Seems like everyone is ignoring the reason his contract wasn’t extended: UMMC has flawed accounting systems and internal controls which he was supposed to correct. However, why not go along with the rest of the country. Elect someone because he’s a good guy; forget performance.

I’m not sure what the outcome will be, but whether you stand with Dan or not, the idea that the IHL could do this without input or even a heads up to UM’s faculty, staff, students, alumni and biggest names and donors is ludicrous. The 6:30 Friday news dump and the weak follow up only make them look more suspicious. On one side you have the Mannings, Khayat, Grisham, Overby, Barksdale, the Ford Foundation, the Alumni Association, the Faculty Senate, the Staff Council, the Student Council, 5K who signed a petition, and 2.5K who showed up to rally. On the other side you have 12 people, most of whom don’t have UM ties. Who you gonna trust?

I heard Dan Jones actually got let go because he has connections to ISIS.
But they’re in negotiations to reverse the decision because he has agreed to work as a double agent.

JM, seems like you are ignoring the reason the IHL board gave that bogus justification for letting him go.

Anonymous to JM, do you have proof of “bogus justification?” If so, please enlighten me. I have personal ties to Ole Miss & UMMC. Ole Miss is in good shape. UMMC, not so good. Mississippi needs more Doctors!

The fact that the justifications given were bogus is confirmed by the video of Alan Perry praising the strides made by the medical school on these issues (available online) and the student interviews with Borsig who was too ill-prepared to effectively hide the truth. Chancellor Dan Jones has done an excellent job. There is no use pretending he hasn’t.

JM, Joyce beat me to it. I don’t know what you think your “inside” info is with your ties, but I would love to hear their explanation for Alan Perry’s comments and what exactly is wrong with UMMC. ……..Please enlighten me.

Leadership? Forgive me, but let’s consif the elephant in the room. Dan Jones admitted the accountung issues existing and were previously brought to his attention by the IHL to fix. He further admits he was allowed time to correct them, but did nothing. Now that his job is in jeopardy, he asks for more time to fox the problem. Dan’s arrogant ass got what he deserved. Lest you forget that Pete Boone would still bs our AD if Forward Rebels didn’t act. Dan knew about issues in our athletic department since 2009, but didn’t Fire Boone. Even when everyone hated Boone, Dan let Pete stay on spite of his gross negligence. Pete Boone owes his University pension to Dan Jones, and Ross Bojrk can thank Forward Rebels for creating the vacancy.
