Rebels Look to NFL Draft: Defensive Back Cody Prewitt

College football and NFL fans around the country will gather around televisions everywhere at 7 p.m. Thursday as National Football League commissioner Roger Goodell opens the 2015 Draft.

Southeastern Conference players often dominate the selections, and Ole Miss fans want to know where our boys will head for the next level. For the next three days, we will look at the Rebels who could go in the Draft and examine their abilities and rankings.

Defensive back Cody Prewitt was a dominant force in the backfield for the Landshark defense. Prewitt racked up 156 solo tackles in his career to go along with 247 totals in his four years on the field. He also pulled in a total of 12 interceptions for 174 yards.

At this season’s combine, Prewitt graded out to a 5.27, where he ran a 4.60 in the 40-yard dash and 11 reps in the 225 lb. bench press. He excelled as the top performer in the broad jump as he posted a 125.0 inch jump and in the 60-yard shuttle Prewitt had the time of 11.44 seconds.

Prewitt’s projected draft is the third or fourth round. At the next level, he will fit best with teams as a single-high and Cover 2 safety, according to NFL.com.

Prewitt’s playing ability matches well with NFL player Phillip Thomas.
