Ole Miss Baseball Travels to No. 14 Mizzou
The Diamond Rebels embark on their final SEC road trip of the season this weekend as they head to Columbia, Missouri, for a three-game stint versus No. 14 Missouri.
Ole Miss (24-22, 10-11 SEC) comes into the weekend after defeating Mississippi State 11-1 on Tuesday night to claim the Governor’s Cup. The 10-run win over the Bulldogs was the largest margin of victory in the 36-year history of the game. Senior Scott Weathersby received MVP for his performance in the game.
During the month of April, sophomore Cody Bortles drove in 26 RBI in the span of 17 games, while teammate Cameron Dishon leads the conference in sacrifice bunts with eight.
As a club, Ole Miss has strung together 83 hits in the past five contests.
No. 14 Missouri (26-19, 12-9 SEC) enters the weekend after dropping their last five games on the diamond after being swept by Vanderbilt in a conference series and two games to Missouri State. At the plate, Ryan Howard leads Missouri with a .294 average to go along with 10 doubles, three home runs and 30 RBI. Tim Jamieson is in his 21st season as head coach of the Tigers.
The Tigers have a consistent rotation as three Tigers have each made 11 starts. Reggie McClain, a three-time SEC Pitcher of the Week this season, will get the ball in the series opener.
This weekend the Rebels will send Christian Trent and Brady Bramlett to the hill on Friday and Saturday respectively with Sundays still unknown, while the Tigers are going to go with Reggie McClain, Tanner Houck and Peter Fairbanks respectively.
Ole Miss and Missouri’s series is young on the diamond, having only met 11 times with the Rebels holding a 7-4 advantage. Last season in Oxford, Ole Miss swept the three-game series.
Fans can catch every pitch of this series on SECNetwork+ or listen to the call on the Ole Miss Radio Network with David Kellum and Keith Kessinger. Games are set for 6 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.
The Rebs return to Swayze next Thursday night as they welcome in the Bulldogs from Mississippi State University.
