One day after being selected as a Ferriss Trophy finalist for his success on the field, Ole Miss senior pitcher Scott Weathersby was recognized for his work off the field by being named to the SEC Community Service Team, the conference office announced Tuesday, May 12. Representing the Rebels and being active in the community, Weathersby earned his spot on the team for the second straight year.

For each of its 21 league-sponsored sports, the SEC names a Community Service Team to highlight student-athletes from each school who give back to the community through superior service efforts. Weathersby is one of 14 baseball student-athletes selected for recognition for his service efforts in the Ole Miss and Oxford communities and around the country. The Hattiesburg, Mississippi, native has been an active member of the community since setting foot on campus while also maintaining a service presence in Hattiesburg and in his travels around the United States.

As a team captain for the Ole Miss baseball team, Weathersby has been a leader on and off the field. He led the Rebels in volunteering at the Bats and Ball Clinic in coordination with the Junior Auxiliary of Oxford. Using his talents on the diamond, he has coached baseball and mentored youth in the Oxford community as well as California while serving as president of the local Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter. He also has been a guest speaker at local churches.

Since his arrival at Ole Miss, Weathersby has been active in Reading with the Rebels program, reading books to local elementary school students and helping promote literacy. He also stocked local food pantries as part of the SEC’s Together We CAN Food Drive. Weathersby continued to be active during the holiday season, participating in the Adopt-A-Basket Thanksgiving fundraiser as well as the Books and Bears Christmas fundraiser.

Weathersby graduated this past weekend, majoring in biology with a minor in psychology. While at Ole Miss, he was a member of the Chancellor’s Honor Roll, Dean’s Honor Roll and SEC Academic Honor Roll. He is also a nominee for the SEC’s H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Award.
