School-aged children in Oxford may enjoy nutritious meals free of charge through July 17 at Oxford Intermediate School thanks to the Summer Food Service Program, funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The program is administered through the Mississippi Department of Education’s Office of Child Nutrition.

Children who received nutritious meals during the school year will be able to eat at the school, located at 501 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Monday through Friday. Breakfast is served from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m and lunch is served from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

According to the Mississippi Department of Education, children are automatically eligible to receive these free meals if they live in households that receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, benefits under the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR) or Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF.) The income guidelines are listed here.

Children in households that attend a residential camp are required to complete a meal application to determine eligibility for the program. Eligibility is based on income guidelines. For more information on the Oxford program, call the Oxford School District at 236-1079.
