Oxford Crime Report: Friday – Sunday, August 7 – 9

Oxford police responded to the following incidents: 16 alarms, eight suspicious activities, four disturbances, four malicious mischief, four careless driving, three welfare concerns, three petit larcenies, three improper parking, three noise violations, two ambulance assists, two motorist assists, a harassment, a grand larceny, a false pretense, a code violation, a fire department assist, a lost property, a littering, a 911 hang up call, an animal complaint, and a burglary at Oxford Square Apartments.

Oxford police investigated six wrecks, issued 76 traffic citations and made eight arrests on the following charges:

  • (3) public intoxications
  • Running a stop sign, no driver’s license nor car insurance
  • No driver’s license and possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Noise violation and DUI
  • Careless driving, no driver’s license nor car insurance but with DUI

 

University police responded to the following incidents: 26 vehicle stops, a service call for a suspicious person at the Airport at Ole Miss, emergency medical services due to alcohol poisoning at Stockard Hall, and a speeding at Intramural Field Road.

Oxford Fire Department responded to the following incidents:
August 7

  • A power pole wire on fire at 10:04 a.m. at intersection of Price Street and North Lamar Boulevard
  • A lightning hit a power pole causing the base to catch fire at 10:13 a.m. at 164 Jeanette Phillips Drive>/li>
  • A smoke detector activated at 11:14 a.m. by workers cutting sheetrock at Kappa Sigma house
  • A smoke detector activated at 7:50 p.m. by a fog machine at Brown Hall

August 8

  • A smoke detector malfunction at 6:07 a.m. at Northgate Dorms
  • A cancelled call at 8:16 a.m. at 906 Murfield
  • A smoke detector malfunction at 11:07 a.m. at Rebel Book Store
  • A cancelled call at 4:04 p.m. at 701 Faulkner Woods Place
  • A tree fell on a power line causing it to catch fire at 8:14 p.m. at 299 Phillip Road

August 9

  • A smoke detector activated at 9:01 a.m. by workers sanding at Hermitage Gardens
