The Ole Miss Rebels are beginning the 2015 season at No. 15 which is an outstanding launch position. Four SEC teams start ahead of the Rebs with AL 3rd; GA 7th; LSU 10th; and AU 14th. Other SEC teams are as follows…AR 18; TN 19; MO 31; A&M 32; MSU 38; FL 40; SC 56; KY 58; and VU 77. Ole Miss’ nonconference opponents have Memphis 64; Fresno State 89; New Mexico State 120; and UT Martin not ranked.

The first chance for the Rebs to move up will be the September 19th matchup in Tuscaloosa. Even a close loss on the road would probably not be devastating, but who is thinking “L” at this juncture. It’s true we’ve never beaten the Tide back-to-back, but we’ve never seen this level of depth; talent; and 4 preseason All Americans either. Alabama has got to be concerned, but with No. 17 Wisconsin on their front door mat, they cannot focus on
Ole Miss, at least not until September 6th.

You never want to look past anyone, but with two home opening lightweights, the Rebs could start focusing on Bama somewhat now. In order to win the west, this game is critical as a loss to the Tide would press the Rebs to run the SEC table going 7-1 and hoping there are two opponents out there who could bring down Bama. The odds would be high against this happening.

The table is now set. We know what we have to do with the challenges and opportunities ahead. It’s been 45 years since we last saw the Sugar Bowl. I’m still optimistic this year might just be the one. I was among the faithful that cold outdoor day in New Orleans when we defeated favorite Arkansas landing No. 8 in the final AP poll. It was a great memory never to be forgotten!
