Junior libero Kristen Brashear helped lead Ole Miss volleyball to a shutout of Georgia last Friday night at the Gillom Sports Center, and Monday she was honored as the SEC Defensive Player of the Week by the conference office.

Brashear tallied 20 digs to help the Rebels earn their second straight shutout of Georgia and their second SEC win of the year. It also marked team’s 10th home win, the second consecutive year to reach double-digit wins at home.

Brashear ranks second in the SEC in conference matches only with 4.94 digs per set. Overall, she is averaging 3.99 digs per set, which ranks sixth in the league.  Brashear moved up to ninth all-time at Ole Miss with 759 digs. Her passing game has helped the Rebels rank top five in hitting percentage and kills per set, while having two players in the top six in hitting percentage. Brashear also ranks sixth in the SEC in service aces at 0.33 per set.

The Rebels have now had three players earn a weekly SEC honor, including seniorsNakeyta Clair and Ty Laporte, who earned SEC Offensive Player of the Week honors earlier this year.

The Rebels return to action this weekend at Missouri on Friday and at Arkansas on Sunday. Sunday’s match will be televised on the SEC Network at 4 p.m.
