Zimride Offers Ride Sharing Service to Ease Commute

University of Mississippi is a member of the Zimride community, a ride sharing location service for employees and students looking to save money by carpooling and reducing their carbon footprint.

The Zimride website allows others traveling in the same direction to connect for a carpool commute.

It is available throughout Oxford and can connect travelers in surrounding cities as well, which is something to keep in mind over winter break. The private network requires an email address for usage.

“We would like to encourage the concept of carpooling since many UM employees live outside of Oxford and have a 20-to-30 minute commute,” said Hal Robinson, manager of transportation and parking services. “It helps save money, helps reduce traffic, reduces parking congestion and reduces the carbon footprint of the university.”

Ole Miss Zimride helps travelers combine efforts and splits costs on short commutes and road trips to special events. Zimride also offers various sweepstakes throughout the year. Ole Miss community members have been sweepstakes winners twice recently, including one winner in November of a $100 gift card.

Through the website, users can create a profile to search for open seats in a carpool or post a commute of their own at
