Ole Miss and Baylor are in discussions to meet in a non-conference contest in 2020, according to Rebels athletics director Ross Bjork.

“We are speaking to Baylor about a game in 2020, but nothing is finalized,” Bjork said to SEC Country. “Can only confirm that we are talking, and we are hopeful we can get an agreement done very soon.”

Baylor athletics director Ian McCaw made finding an SEC team to add to the Bears schedule for a neutral site game in Texas in 2020 a priority, according to John Werner of the Waco Tribune-Herald.

The AdvoCare Kickoff in NRG Stadium in Houston and the Cowboys Kickoff Classic in AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas are the two most likely destinations for a game if it were to take place in Texas.

If the game does occur, it will be the second matchup between the two programs. The Bears defeated the Rebels, 20-10, in 1975.

Ole Miss would also fill its mandatory non-conference game against a Power 5 school, while Baylor would add a marquee non-conference game to a schedule that has been heavily scrutinized over the past few seasons.

The Rebels currently have non-conference games against Power 5 schools set up for the next nine seasons, except 2018 and 2020.

“2018 is moving along, but nothing to report on just yet,” Bjork said.

Ole Miss faces Florida State in Orlando, Fla., to open the 2016 season, and the Rebels have a home-and-home series with California in 2017 (Berkley) and 2019 (Oxford). Ole Miss also has a home-and-home set with Georgia Tech (2021-22) and Wake Forest (2023-24).
