According to 247sports.com, Ole Miss has now moved into the fourth spot nationally as a result of yesterday’s two new commitments. Tre Nixon, a 6-1 wide receiver, from Melbourne, FL, and Royce Newman, a 6-7, 255 LB. offensive tackle from Nashville, are now among the Rebels’ 22 2016 football commits. Nixon is four stars and Newman three stars.
Because of the volatility of the nature of recruiting, I am overly superstitious about bragging rights until the signing day actually occurs. However, fourth in the nation even though possibly temporary, is an attention getter. And we continue to hear from Rebel Rumor Ramblings that several more “sleepers” are in the bullpen.
Here’s an analysis of the 22 commitments to date by position. Five stars are now two with seven four stars and 13 three stars.
- Offensive Linemen: 6
- Defensive Linemen: 2
- Quarterbacks: 1
- Running Backs: 2
- Defensive Backs: 3
- Linebackers: 2
- All Purpose: 1
- Tight Ends: 2
- Wide Receivers: 3
The three teams ahead of the Rebs presently are as follows:
-
1. LSU
2. Ohio State
3. Michigan
Alabama is in eighth place with Mississippi State way down in 41st. State has no five-star commits and only one four-star presently.
With the dust starting to settle, this could wind up being an exciting recruiting season unlike the norm of yesteryear. But just in case, let’s keep the Mimosas corked until the “Rebel Yell” is sounded!
