On February 4, the Oxford police department received information from the Olive Branch Police Department on possible credit card frauds that occurred in Oxford. After further investigation, the Oxford police discovered that there were several incidents of credit card fraud that had occurred. These incidents took place at Home Depot, Office Depot and Kroger. The suspects, later identified as Deon Darden (26 of Memphis) and Daniel Jackson (27 of Memphis), went into these stores and bought multiple MasterCard gift cards in numerous amounts with fraudulent credit cards.

On February 8, the Oxford police located and arrested Darden and Jackson for credit card fraud. Both were taken before Judge Carolyn Bell for their Initial Appearance and their bond was set at $20,000.

Major Jeff McCutchen said, “We have notified the individuals that had their credit card information stolen, they had no idea at the time. There could be more victims as we have learned that these men were working out of Memphis and possibly targeting the mid-south area. We are asking for all residents to check their credit card accounts to make sure they have not had their accounts used also.”

Oxford police responded to the following incidents: six alarms, four welfare concerns, two suspicious activities, two improper parking, two motorist assists, a noise violation, a disturbance, a malicious mischief, a lost property, a harassing phone call, a careless driver and an animal complaint.

Oxford police investigated seven wrecks, issued 81 traffic citations and made two arrests on these following charges:

University police responded to the following incidents: three vehicle stops, a moving violation per driving the wrong way with a fake ID and possession of drug paraphernalia in Kincannon lot, a domestic violence/aggravated assault at Campus Walk, a vehicle accident on University Avenue, and a moving violation per driving the wrong way on an one-way street on North Lane.

Oxford Fire Department responded to the following call: a water flow alarm malfunction at 3:34 p.m. at Faser Hall.
