Former Ole Miss quarterback Bo Wallace is returning to his home state of Tennessee to coach high school quarterbacks at the rival of his alma mater, according to Mike Organ of The Tennesseean.
Marshall County High School coach Thomas Osteen confirmed the hire to Organ. He’ll be reunited with Wallace seven years after the pair won a state title together at Giles County High School while Osteen was an assistant coach.
“I am just thrilled, absolutely thrilled to have Bo join our staff,” Osteen told The Tennesseean. “He was the first quarterback that I coached at Giles County. I’ve kept up with his career very closely and been to a lot of games since he’s been gone. He was a three-year quarterback in the SEC and there aren’t many of those guys around.”
According to Wade Neely, a sports information director in Midstate Tennessee, “several overtures” were made to bring Wallace back to Giles County. But he chose Marshall County where his younger brother, Bryce Wallace, will be a sophomore in the fall.
As a freshman, Bryce Wallace appeared in nine varsity games and completed 11 of 17 passes for 227 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. He could be in line to be the team’s starter in 2016 with the departure of Ashton Posey, who threw 28 touchdown passes as a senior.
Marshall County finished 12-2 in 2015, but lost in the Division I Class 4A semifinals to the eventual state champions, Knoxville Catholic. At Marshall County’s rival, Wallace was the 2009 Class AA Mr. Football for the state of Tennessee, leading Giles County to a Class 4A state title.
Wallace threw 62 touchdown passes in three seasons as the starter at Ole Miss, leading the team to wins in the 2012 BBVA Compass Bowl and 2013 Music City Bowl before a loss in the 2014 Peach Bowl. He was invited to a rookie minicamp with the Kansas City Chiefs after going undrafted in the 2015 NFL Draft, but did not earn a contract with the team.
