A special election for the Ward One Alderman position was held yesterday on Feb. 15, at the Oxford Conference Center.

Rick Addy, a local business owner and photographer, won the seat and took to social media to thank voters.

“I am grateful for the support from my family, neighbors, friends, everyone in Ward 1 and all the people of Oxford for your overwhelming support,” Addy said. “Thanks to all of you who took time out of your day to vote. I look forward to being Ward 1’s new Alderman. Oxford, what a wonderful place to call home!”

Addy defeated attorney, Jordan Bankhead, who also ran for the House of Representatives in 2011. Former Ward One Alderman, Jay Hughes, resigned from the position in December after being elected to the House of Representatives.
