Laquon Treadwell is the latest in a long line of confident wide receivers with first-round NFL talent.

Thursday at the league’s scouting combine, he was asked which SEC cornerbacks gave him trouble during his career at Ole Miss, and hesitated to give anyone praise.

“I mean, I wouldn’t consider anyone tough in college,” he said. “You had teams that had great players. I just never got a one-on-one matchup where I (thought) that guy would stop me or that guy would shut me down.”

He admitted there was a trio of players who made things difficult: Alabama’s Cyrus Jones, Mississippi State’s Taveze Calhoun and “the guy from Florida.”

Treadwell made it clear: “Not Vernon Hargreaves.”

The receiver was referring to Florida cornerback Jalen Tabor, but the shot at Hargreaves added more bravado to his press conference.

When asked whether he sees himself as a possession receiver in the league, Treadwell demurred.

“I don’t,” he said. “I think I’ll only get better. I’ll continue to work, continue to get the best training now that I’m at the highest level. I’ll just continue to push myself to get better, and my game will show eventually.”

Many analysts see Treadwell as the draft’s top receiver. NFL Network’s Mike Mayock compared him to Pro Bowl receiver Alshon Jeffery.

Treadwell cast a tiny shadow of doubt on his draft prospects by announcing he won’t run the 40-yard dash this week. But none of that is fazing him at the moment.

He is confident he will show off his speed at Ole Miss’ pro day next month.

“The questions, they don’t really bother me,” Treadwell said. “I still have to go out there and play and have the production on the field. I don’t let it get to me. I’ll run what I run and just stay confident in myself.”
