Early Friday morning, Ole Miss defensive tackle Breeland Speaks was arrested with DWI-first offense charge. Speaks was then released around 7:00 a.m. this morning according to Neal McCready of RebelGrove.com.

Coach Hugh Freeze said in a written statement: “Breeland’s poor choice does not meet the expectations of our program, and there will be consequences He and I have spoken, and he is very disappointed in himself and will accept whatever punishment that is handed down. We are very thankful he is safe and that this was not a life-altering decision. In these situations, we hope our young men learn from their mistakes and do not let the mistake define them.”

Speaks is supposed to fill the void of Robert Nkemdiche who left early for the NFL. Last season, he played in all 13 games and had 14 solo tackles, assisted in 18 for a total of 32 tackles on the year. Speaks is originally from Jackson, Mississippi and played at Callaway high school.
