On March 17, Memphis police arrested 41-year-old Ronald Monegon, Jr., who had a warrant issued on him by Oxford police investigators for a residential burglary of a home on College Hill Road. This man was also charged for the theft of a powder blue ’72 Chevy Blazer from the Square.
The Memphis police officers stopped Monegon, native of Somerville, Tennessee, on the warrant issued by Oxford police investigators. The Oxford police then advised Memphis police that Monegon is also a suspect in the auto vehicle theft of the bright blue truck from the Square on March 11. Memphis police officers then checked where Mongeon was staying and discovered the stolen vehicle in process of being broken down to be sold.
Memphis police also discovered Mongeon’s girlfriend, 21-year-old Miranda Hurt, who was later identified as an Oxford resident by the Oxford police, with the stolen vehicle at the location.
The Memphis police brought these two and the vehicle to Oxford. Mongeon’s bond was revoked because he was already out on a previous felony bond. The Oxford police charged Hurt with the same two charges Mongeon received and her bond was set at $10,000.
They are believed to have stolen several electronics from the home on College Hill Road (but dodged capture) on March 8. The police suspected them at the time, but did not have sufficient evidence then.
The police also suspected them for stealing the vehicle from the Square on March 11. During the search for the vehicle, the police officers posted pictures of the security footage from that night on the Square as they asked Oxonians to keep an eye out for the unmistakably blue vehicle.
Many people commented on the Oxford police’s Facebook pictures, remembering that blue vehicle.
One of the commentators, Wade Hampton Sutherland, said, “I remember that truck at Cannon when I bought my FJ 40 there.”
Now the truck has been returned home, and its suspected thieves have been brought into custody.
