Wright Thompson Opens Smithsonian Series

Wright Thompson, award winning senior writer for ESPN The Magazine, will join Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum historian Rick Cleveland Monday for the first of a series of programs in conjunction with The Smithsonian traveling exhibit “Hometown Teams.”

The program will begin at 5 p.m. at the MSHOF. Thompson, a Clarksdale native who lives in Oxford, currently is the guest editor of Best American Sports Writing and is the winner of the Ernie Pyle Award for print journalist and the Edward R. Murrow Award for his television reporting.

Thompson and Cleveland are expected to discuss sports writing and sports journalism’s role in sports communities in Mississippi and across America.
