Northwest’s Hunter Wilson Signs with Mississippi College

unnamed-8Hunter Wilson will continue his baseball career after Northwest, with the sophomore outfielder signing his NLI on Tuesday to play for Mississippi College next season.

“I’m really excited to continue my baseball career at Mississippi College,” Wilson said. “I get to live with my Ranger teammate Hunter Lacefield, we’re really good friends, and I can’t wait to get down there.”

Wilson has started 44 of 45 games for the Rangers this season and leads the team in hits (57) and sacrifice hits (12). He’s second on the team in at-bats (163) and average (.350) and third in runs scored, adding five doubles, 23 RBIs and nine stolen bases with a .984 fielding percentage.

A .346 lifetime hitter in 68 career games (61 starts), Wilson has also been a scholar-athlete off the field. He was recently named to the 2016 Capital One Academic All-District 1 Baseball First Team, is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and has made the President’s (twice) and Dean’s List while at Northwest.

A product of Lewisburg High School and graduate with special distinction, Wilson was a member of four district championship teams and helped the Patriots to the Class 4A State Championship in 2013. He ended his senior season hitting .289 with a double, 15 RBIs, 19 runs scored and 10 stolen bases.

The Olive Branch native is the fifth Ranger to ink with a four-year school so far this season along with LeeMarcusBoyd (USM), Colt Smith (USM), Peyton Plumlee (Mississippi State) and Hunter Lacefield (Mississippi College).
