Oxford School District Foundation Celebrates 30 Years with Free, Family Fun Event on August 26
The Oxford School District Foundation (OSDF) is throwing a birthday bash this Friday, August 26, 2016, and the public is invited to join in on the birthday fun. For 30 years, OSDF has supported Oxford school classrooms through fundraising and promotional efforts.
The OSDF 30th birthday celebration begins at 5 p.m. on the practice field behind Oxford Middle School, 222 Bramlett Boulevard, before the Oxford Chargers’ football game home opener against Starkville. The free, family-friendly event will feature bouncy houses, face painting, gridiron challenges, game day food for purchase and, of course, birthday cake.
Event organizers say now’s the perfect time to celebrate positive accomplishments and help create an even brighter future for Oxford school students.
“We are fortunate to be a part of one of the greatest school districts in the state and want to take this opportunity to say ‘thank you’ to everyone who has helped make it such a success for our students,” said Allyson Best, president of OSDF.
OSDF will also be recruiting new members for the organization, which raises money to fund innovative teaching ideas submitted by teachers in the Oxford School District. This past school year, the foundation awarded more than $50,000 to 28 teachers representing every school in the district.
“The more members we have, the better we can serve our teachers,” said Ashley Luke, OSDF event organizer. “We want them (teachers) to have everything they need to continue making children’s education in the Oxford School District one of the best in the state of Mississippi.”
The foundation’s goal is to sign up 300 members this school year—ten for every year of the organization’s history. A membership table will be set up at the OSDF 30th Birthday Bash, allowing individuals to join for as little as $25.
