Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority to Host Annual ‘Slicing Out Arthritis’ Event
On Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2016 from 6-8 p.m., the Nu Beta Chapter of Alpha Omicron Pi (AOII) will host it’s annual ‘Slicing Out Arthritis’ pie sale event, which benefits the Arthritis Foundation.
According to AOII’s national philanthropy chair, Emily Harral, the event is expected increase in attendance this year.
“Last year, over 800 people attended, and this year we expect about 1,000 people to be in attendance,” Harral said.
The event raised $13,000 last year and after all event expenses were paid, $9,538 went directly to the Arthritis Foundation.
“Because there is not an Arthritis Foundation office in Mississippi at all, we are their only fundraising source at all in this entire state,” Harral said.
Sarah Siebert, the philanthropy advisor for Nu Beta chapter since 2010, said that in addition to raising money for the Arthritis Foundation, AOII will also be allowing participants to sponsor pies to donate to families at More Than A Meal in Oxford.
According to Siebert, the Ole Miss chapter of AOII has been hosting the pie sale since 2003, and it has been extremely successful every year.
Ole Miss sophomore and AOII member Elizabeth Ward said that AOII’s annual pie sale is her favorite philanthropy event her chapter hosts.
“The event is a great way to support the Arthritis Foundation and to get everyone in the holiday spirit since it is right before Thanksgiving break,” Ward said. “Also, who doesn’t love pie?”
The event will be held at the Alpha Omicron Pi house. Tickets can be purchased from any AOII member or at the door the night of the event for $3 per ticket. One ticket buys one slice of any pie you prefer. The flavors available will be pecan, pumpkin, chocolate, key lime, apple and cherry.
