As many Oxonians know, local businesses in the area play a huge role in the Oxford community. Located on University Avenue, Alice and Company Salon has been serving their community since 1990, and has no plans of abandoning their service any time soon.
“When Alice opened the salon she named it Alice and Company. She started out by herself, and now she has grown to several stylists,” salon owner Marie Moore said. “There has been a lot that has come and gone over the years, but she has always maintained a great salon with a great environment. I was very honored to be able to buy the salon from her… and her still work in the salon.”
The staff at the salon all started their journey at Alice and Company Salon for different reasons. However, they all share the same passion for making their clients feel beautiful and happy.
“Right out of high school, I went to college for a while and then decided that I wanted a family first,” hairstylist Michelle Dugald said. “I did that, but I just was not happy with what I was doing. I decided to go to hair school later in life, and it has been the best thing ever.”
From the initial greeting upon entering the salon until the time that each client leaves, the staff makes sure that their clients feel special. The staff at Alice and Company Salon prides themselves on their close bonds and love for their jobs.
“We are overall just a wonderful group,” Dugald said. “This is the best group that I have ever worked with in my life. There’s no drama, we all help each other, and we all get along.”
Unlike other salons in the area that may only provide hair services, Alice and Company Salon is known for other services as well. They provide hair, nails, waxing, eyelashes and all forms of coloring.
Receptionist Kendra Soden describes a typical work day at the salon as “busy, but very fun.” With the number of citizens in the Oxford community steadily increasing, Alice and Company Salon stays busy year round. The staff even stays after hours, if necessary, to assure that every client’s needs are met.
“I come in and just get right to work, answering phones, making appointments, and anything else that needs to be done,” Soden said.
