5 Things You Need in Your Closet Right Now

topstoryhottytoddy

We are finally experiencing cooler weather in Oxford, which means it is time to break out our fall and winter wardrobes!  For those who are still deciding what to buy, here are five things you need in your closet right now.

  1. This season’s most striking trend is over-the-knee boots. Suede is the most popular material, and colors such as black, gray, and taupe are all fashionable. Boots with or without a heel are equally as trendy. For shorter shoppers who may be hesitant to try this new style, experiment with a taller heel or a boot that grazes the kneecap. It is totally acceptable to be nervous about trying this bold boot, but do not be afraid to be adventurous with fashion! These boots look great paired with a dress or, yes, even skinny jeans.

  1. Suede is always a popular fabric during the fall and winter months, and this season is no exception. This year the number one way to embrace this creamy textile is with an above-the-knee skirt. Colors such as blush, burgundy and gray are all popular, but the most prominent hues are sandstone, tan or camel. Asymmetrical hemlines and simple embellishments, such as brass buttons, add dramatic details.

  1. Two out of three items on this list are shoes, but let’s be honest, fall and winter outfits are centered around the right pair of shoes. Ankle boots are always a safe purchase in the fall and winter months, but this year offers a chance to step in a new direction. Sneakers are booming right now, and contrary to popular opinion, they are an acceptable footwear choice for all ages. Choosing the right sneaker is half the battle, and slip-ons offer the perfect option for everyone because they come in so many different styles. Velvet, suede and leather are all stylish possibilities for this year.

  1. Stores in Oxford are saturated with choker necklaces. Popular constructions include straps of thin leather, dainty lace or rich velvet that can be wrapped multiple times. However, a single, chunky piece of suede with a print such as snakeskin is also an option. Chokers can be worn with everyday looks and even eveningwear. Some chokers are even embellished with jewels, beading, or metal details.

  1. Bomber jackets is making a come-back this year but with revamped colors and textures. Olive green is the must have shade for anyone wishing to rock a bomber, and silk is the preferred fabric. Floral designs and crushed velvet are some of the edgier alternatives. Bombers in metallic shades of blush and softer shades such as tan are also popular.

Bonus buy: burgundy lipstick. One of the most popular colors this year is wine, and an easy way to incorporate this hue is with a dark, matte lip!
