Ole Miss Volleyball Hosts South Alabama Jaguars
The Ole Miss Rebels volleyball team will play host to the South Alabama Jaguars inside the Gillom Sports Center in two matches over the weekend.
These two matches came about after Hurricane Irma hit the state of Florida earlier in the week. The Rebels were supposed to travel to Orlando and South Alabama was going to go to Miami for the Florida International tournament which got canceled.
Coach Steven McRoberts met with the media on Monday at his weeks’ upcoming match schedule.
His squad traveled to Colorado to take on Northern Colorado last Tuesday night, where the Rebels claimed a 3-0 victory behind a stellar performance by Lexi Thompson and Emily Stroup, who combined for 23 kills in the match.
South Alabama comes into the weekend at 4-4. They are coming off a 3-0 win over Clemson at the War Eagle Invitational last weekend. Prior to that, the Jaguars lost to host Auburn 3-0. The Jaguars are led by sophomore outside hitter Iva Durdanovic, who averages 2.79 kills per set, and sophomore middle blocker Kelley Hartman, who averages 1.48 blocks per set and hits at a .275 clip.
Ole Miss leads the all-time series with South Alabama 6-2. This will be the first meeting between the two teams since 2005, a 3-1 win for the Jaguars at the Jaguar Challenge in Mobile, Alabama.
The first match will be tonight at 6:30 p.m. with the second match on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
