OPD Arrests Oxford Man, Victim Allegedly Kidnapped and Robbed

On Sept. 26, 2017, at approximately 2 a.m., officers arrested Ale Burt, 60, of Oxford, for burglary, kidnapping, robbery, motor vehicle theft, felony fleeing and possession of burglary tools.

Burt broke into a home on Elm Street, kidnapped the elderly homeowner, forced the victim into the victim’s own car and drove them to a location, making the victim cash checks and then forcing the victim to give him the money.
Officers were notified by a business while the victim was inside, and the victim told the clerk that they were being held against their will.
Officers responded to Jackson Ave. and saw the vehicle. They attempted to stop the car, but the driver fled. A short pursuit began, and eventually, the driver bailed out on foot.
Officers were able to apprehend Burt without incident. After the arrest, a search was conducted where officers found burglary tools and the victim’s money in the car.
Burt’s bond was set at $200,000.
