The Ole Miss Rebels 2017 SEC slate got off to a rocky start with a 66-3 loss to Alabama in Bryant-Denny Stadium.
Monday, Coach Matt Luke met with the local media to discuss this weekend’s coming up match against Auburn.
“Auburn is very good defensively, and they have a very good front seven,” coach Luke said. “They are really attacking very strong and are a top five defense in the country. Offensively, they are going to run the ball and attack us in the speed sweep motion. They are going to take our eyes and mess with our safety fits, and they have two very good running backs, a good offensive line, and then good receivers they stretch the field with.”
Coach Wesley McGriff
Against the Crimson Tide, the Rebels defense has to go back to a simple scheme.
“Missed tackles show up with more mental errors, and we already air on the side of simplicity,” McGriff said. “We’ve got to look at even more. The players performance and mental mistakes speak to you, and you have to listen.”
Coach Phill Longo
Going into Auburn this week, the Rebels offense looks to make things more simple for the offense.
“Just simplifying from our standpoint is to have some more direct play calls and maybe don’t have as many play calls as we once had,” Longo said.
The Rebels look to take on the challenge that Auburn will present. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. and will be aired on SEC Network.
