Lafayette Commodores to Host Lewisburg Tonight for Homecoming Game
This evening, the Lafayette Commodores play host to Lewisburg for Homecoming 2017. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
Lafayette (1-5, 1-1) rolls in after a 45-14 victory over Saltillo last Friday, the Commodores’ first victory of the season.
“We played Saltillo last week and had a good game plan going in, got our first win of the season,” Lafayette head coach Michael Fair said. “Hopefully, we will gain some momentum and confidence from that going into tonight’s game against Lewisburg.”
Over the past few weeks, Nick Onsby has really stood out to the Lafayette coaching staff.
“We have had several guys, but one of our main guys is Nick Onsby,” Fair said. “He has been a leader for us on the offensive side. He plays some fullback for us and has done a really good job. I would have to say that he has been a good leader for us these past few weeks.”
The Commodores have had to prepare for this week’s matchup a little quicker with the game being one day earlier.
“We had to bump everything up a little bit. Usually the day before a game, we have a walk through and no pads, but yesterday we ended up going at it in full gear,” Fair said. “We had to bump everything up, but this late in the season it’s not that big of a deal like it would have been earlier in the season.”
Lewisburg has dropped its last two district games after starting the season strong with a 4-0 mark. Last week, the Patriots fell to Olive Branch by the score of 34-7.
“They are well-coached and very sound,” Fair said. “They have a (senior) running back (Chester King) No. 7 that runs very hard. We feel like we are that kind of team, if we can slow him down, we have a chance to win. They are good on the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball, and it’s going to take a great effort to come away with a win.”
At half-time of tonight’s game, the 2017 Homecoming Court will be presented.
