State, Local Officials to Dedicate Veterans Memorial Bridge on Highway 7 Tomorrow
The bridge that traverses the Little Tallahatchie River at that spot will be officially designated as the Veterans Memorial Bridge in a special dedication ceremony at 2 p.m., Thursday, November 9, at the Frank Walker Landing on Highway 7 North.
Jeff Busby, president of the Lafayette County Board of Supervisors, will be on hand for the event, along with Mississippi Transportation Commissioner Mike Tagert and State Representative Steve Massengill of District 13.
Oxford High School’s Marine Corps Junior ROTC will present the colors, and Kim Gregory, a retired Lafayette County High School chorus teacher, will perform the national anthem. Steve Quarles, pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church and director of Lafayette County Emergency Management, will deliver the invocation.
The Mississippi Legislature designated the bridge as Veterans Memorial Bridge in Senate Bill 2539, which passed in the 2015 session.
