As seems to be the case with each passing day, Ole Miss’ CeCe Kizer has received another postseason honor in recognition of her exceptional junior season. On Tuesday, the Blue Valley Northwest High School product was named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Best XI Second Team.
The second team selection designates Kizer as one of the top-six forwards in the nation. The junior is joined by five other SEC players to garner a spot on TDS’s three Best XI teams, including Savannah McCaskill and Grace Fisk (South Carolina), Gabby Seiler (Florida), Katie Cousins (Tennessee) and Mikaela Harvey (Texas A&M).
The honor is one of a myriad of laurels the Overland Park, Kansas native has pulled down following the 2017 season. In addition to receiving First Team All-SEC, First Team United Soccer Coaches All-Region and CoSIDA Academic All-District distinction, Kizer became the first player in program history to be selected as a USC All-American, landing on the Third Team.
Kizer put together one of the greatest seasons in Ole Miss history in 2017, establishing herself as possibly the top playmaking threat in the SEC after leading the conference with 16 goals and 39 points on the season. Those totals ranked third and second, respectively, across the landscape of Division I soccer.
Kizer’s goal and point totals in 2017 both tied for the fourth most in a single season in the history of Rebel soccer. The production is nothing new for the junior, she currently ranks fifth all-time in career goals at 35, while her 84 career points is good for sixth-most in program history.
