Former Ole Miss redshirt sophomore wide receiver Van Jefferson will transfer to an Eastern division SEC school and play for the Florida Gators.
On Monday, Jefferson announced his choice via Twitter:
Jefferson visited three different schools, accompanying Shea Patterson to the University of Michigan, Louisville and Florida, before making his choice.
After the NCAA sanctions came down on December 1, including a bowl ban for Ole Miss in 2018, Jefferson asked permission to contact other schools. Jefferson’s move, which included hiring attorney Tom Mars, led to the university lifting permission-to-contact restrictions on other players who were considering transferring from Ole Miss. Jefferson will still have to petition the NCAA to allow him to play in the 2018 season.
Jefferson came to Ole Miss in 2015 as a former four-star wideout from Brentwood Tenn. During his time playing in the Vaught, he gained 999 yards receiving and four touchdowns in two seasons on the field for the Red and Blue.
