No. 23 Ole Miss Women’s Tennis Team Defeats Purdue 5-2

Powered by the doubles point, a quick win at No. 6 singles and two of the top three singles matches, the No. 23-ranked Ole Miss women’s tennis team defeated Purdue 5-2 Saturday at the Schwartz Tennis Center to begin the 2018 season.
Sophomore Tereza Janatova missed the fall and has only been back a couple weeks, but she made her presence known, grabbing a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles with junior Allie Sanford. The No. 22 ranked duo of Natalie Suk and Sabina Machalova won 7-5 at No. 2 doubles to clinch the point.
In singles, the Rebels captured four first sets. Janatova gained a quick 6-1, 6-2 win against Purdue’s Zala Dovnik at No. 6 to make it 2-0 Rebels.
Machalova lost to Ena Babic 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3 singles, but the Rebels picked up straight set wins from seniors Arianne Hartono (6-2, 6-4) and Suk (6-4, 6-0) to close out the Boilermakers.
After Purdue claimed the match t No. 4 singles, Tea Jandric won the final point for the Rebels 6-1, 7-5 at No. 5 singles.
