Rebels Add Junior College Ace Molly Jacobsen
On Tuesday, Ole Miss head softball coach Mike Smith announced the signing of stud junior college pitcher Molly Jacobsen to the Rebels’ 2018 recruiting class.
Jacobsen, a 5-7 lefty from Des Moines Area Community College in Des Moines, Iowa, will come to Ole Miss as a junior with two years of eligibility remaining after earning her associate’s degree from DMACC.
“We are excited to add Molly to our pitching staff for the 2018-19 season,” said Smith. “She will add to the depth and make-up we already have in the circle. She has been challenged at the junior college level and has been very successful, that will pay huge dividends as she competes in the SEC. She is a competitor and loves to throw. Adding another left-handed pitcher to the mix is a huge benefit. We are excited to welcome Molly to Ole Miss softball and Rebel Nation.”
Thanks in large part to Jacobsen’s left arm, DMACC has risen to the No. 1 ranking in NJCAA Division II Softball with a 28-0 overall record. Jacobsen herself sits at 17-0 on the year.
The Adel, Iowa native is one of the elite junior college pitching prospects in the nation, making 19 appearances and 16 starts on the season for the Bears and allowing just three earned runs in 101.1 innings in the circle to rank second in the country with a 0.21 ERA.
Digging a little deeper, Jacobsen’s numbers become even more gaudy. Jacobsen leads the NJCAA in strikeouts with 193, nearly two an inning. She has surrendered a total of 32 hits on the season, holding opponents to a .096 batting average.
Jacobsen also turned heads as a freshman at DMACC, going 25-4 in 31 appearances with a 1.15 ERA. She racked up 273 strikeouts and issued just 37 free passes in her 170.1 innings in the circle, going the distance 20 times.
