A GoFundMe page has been established for an 8-year-old Oxford girl who died Wednesday at LeBonhuer Hospital after a brief illness.

Within the first two hours of being created, the fundraising site for Mary Laine Thames has raised almost $3,600 for funeral and medical expenses. The goal is set to $30,000.

The GoFundMe was created by Mary Laine’s aunt, but her mother asks that flowers or donations be made to Mississippi Critterz.

Mary Laine was in the third grade at Della Davidson Elementary.

“It is with heavy hearts that the Oxford School District and Della Davidson Elementary family mourns the loss of one of our students,” said Heather Leonard, public information officer for OSD. “Our heartfelt sympathy and prayers go out to the families and friends affected. The district’s team of counselors have been on campus to offering their support to staff and students for any needed emotional support.”

Coleman Funeral Home is handling the arrangements which are incomplete at this time. Hottytoddy.com will run Mary Laine’s complete obituary with service dates and times as soon as they are made available.
