Oxford Man Charged With Shooting at Family Members

An Oxford man was arrested on New Year’s Eve after firing a gun around family members.

According to the Oxford Police Department, at 8 p.m., Dec. 31, officers responded to a home on North 6th Street after receiving a report that a man was shooting at family members.

Once on scene, officers recovered a firearm and shell casing from the scene.

No one was injured during the incident.

They arrested Gerald Smith, 64, of Oxford and charged him with aggravated assault. He was taken to the Lafayette County Detention Center where he was booked on a $15,000 bond by a Justice Court judge.
