The Lafayette County School Board announced the district’s Parents of the Year Monday night during its regular meeting. This year, Pam Swain was not only announced as the Parent of the Year for the Lower Elementary School but also as the Parent of the Year for the entire district.
Swain said she was honored and shocked to be announced as the Lower Elementary Parent of the Year but is especially honored to receive the honor of representing the entire school district.
“Lafayette Elementary has been a part of our everyday life,” Swain said. “We have fallen in love with our elementary school and our district.”
To be honored for something that she does for her children and the other students of the district simply blew Swain away, she said.
In addition to her generous work throughout the Lafayette School District, Swain also serves as the Senior Vice President of the Oxford-Lafayette County Chamber of Commerce. She has been with the chamber for 14 years.
While serving for the chamber, Swain combined her knowledge with her experience to implement a public relations campaign to secure Lafayette County Schools specialty license plates from the state.
This is Swain’s second time receiving the Parent of the Year for the school district. She first received the honor in 2016.
Swain will continue to represent the district as Parent of the Year into the 2019 statewide competition.
Each district to select an outstanding parent who has made a significant commitment to their local school through their dedication to students and their generous gifts of time and other resources, according to the Mississippi Department of Education.
A finalist will be selected from each Congressional District, and from those finalists, the 2019 Mississippi Parent of the Year will be named.
