From office supplies to home essentials, Fred’s offers community members a variety of goods; however, the LOU community will have to shop elsewhere soon to find many of their essentials.

The Oxford Fred’s store is closing its doors to the LOU community, a sales associate confirmed to Hottytoddy.com Friday morning. No clarification was given on a specific date.

According to a statement released Thursday by the Memphis-based department store, Fred’s is set to close 104 of its “underperforming” locations, including the one in Oxford, “as part of an ongoing effort to rationalize its store footprint.”

As a part of the store’s country-wide closing procedures, it is having a store sale for liquidation purposes.

“These additional store closures are a difficult, but necessary step in the continued restructuring of Fred’s,” stated Joseph Anto, Fred’s Chief Executive Officer.

The Oxford Fred’s is one of 18 Mississippi stores to close, including those located in Starkville, Hernando and Tupelo.
