The owner of an Oxford bar where a man unintentionally shot himself in the leg says the man was an off-duty police officer.
Scott Michael, owner of Rooster’s Blues House told Hottytoddy.com Wednesday that an off-duty police officer from south Mississippi was in Oxford for a conference when he came to Rooster’s wearing shorts and a.38 revolver in his pocket.
Michaels said the officer put his hand in his pocket and accidentally bumped the trigger, shooting himself in the calf.
“He should not have been there drinking with a gun in his pocket,” Michael said.
On Tuesday, the Oxford Police Department responded to the bar around midnight Tuesday.
The man was taken via ambulance to Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi with a non-life threatening injury.
OPD said the incident is still under investigation and no charges were filed as of Tuesday.
