After approving special all-day parking prices in the new garage on home game days two weeks ago, the Oxford Board of Aldermen did a takesy-backsy Tuesday night.
The board approved holding off on the special parking prices for game days until next year.
On Sept. 18, the aldermen decided to charge $10 per vehicle in the new downtown parking garage for all non-SEC home games and $20 per vehicle for all SEC home games.
The special prices were to start this weekend for the Ole Miss Rebels homecoming game; however, Parking Director Matt Davis said the reason for the change was consistency.
“We’re halfway through the season right now and we didn’t want to switch it up right now,” he said. “We’ll have a little better of a preparation period to get it right and make sure everyone knows about it.”
On Oct. 7, parking on the first floor of the new parking garage will be $1 an hour and the second-through-fourth floors will be free to park. The outer lots that are currently free will become $.75 an hour and metered parking will remain $1.25 an hour.
However, this weekend during the Ole Miss Rebels homecoming, parking in the garage and outer lots will be free, according to David. Metered parking will remain the same.
