The Oxford Police Department closed the book on about 45 vehicle burglaries by arresting three local men on unrelated charges. All three cases are separate but were solved all around the same time, according to officials.
According to reports, on May 5, officers took a report of a vehicle burglar on Beanland Drive. After an investigation, Demarcus Govan, 19, of Oxford was arrested and charged with one count of burglary of a car.
He was taken to the Lafayette County Detention Center where he was booked a $10,000 bond; however, his bond was revoked due to him being out of jail on a felony bond.
On May 26, investigators with OPD took 12 vehicle burglary reports in the area of Old Sardis Road. After an investigation, Javonteze Johnson, 21, of Oxford was arrested on June 6 and charged with 12 counts of burglary of a car. He was taken to the Detention Center where he was booked on a $30,000 bond; however, the Mississippi Department of Corrections placed a hold on Johnson.
On June 5, OPD took approximately 32 vehicle burglary reports from the areas of Anderson Road, Anchorage Road and Old Sardis Road.
After an investigation, Dewayne Pegues, 19, of Oxford was arrested and charged with 32 counts of burglary of a car. He was taken to the Detention Center where he was booked on a $75,000 bond; however, his bond was revoked due to him being out of jail on a felony bond.
