From the dead of winter to the peak of summer, tourists flock from across the country to visit the hallowed ground of Oxford, and many national publications are picking up on the trend.
New York Magazine highlighted God’s Country in a travel spread mapping out where to stay, what to eat and how to enjoy Oxford as locals do.
In the piece, titled How to Shop for Southern Style, Edna Ishayik gives those unfamiliar with the area a list of bed and breakfasts to enjoy off the beaten path, such as the Barn Loft Bed & Breakfast, the 5 Twelve and the Inn at Ravine. Of all the things Oxford is famous for, the food is a stand-out delight for anyone passing through. John Currence’s City Grocery made the list for must-eat restaurants in town, along with Jinsei and Oxford Canteen.
The article even gave a rare insider’s tip that some locals may not know:
Sniff out Cats Purring, a roving late-night concert and party series run by musician Dent May. When he’s not out of town touring, he sponsors shows at local bars and sometimes out of a 5,000-square-foot farmhouse, which he lives in with four friends and fellow musicians, known as the Dude Ranch. Check their Facebook page for scheduled events or ask the bartenders around town if they’ve caught wind of a spur-of-the-moment fête.
