University of Mississippi Chancellor Dan Jones has rejected a two-year contract renewal that reportedly would have been his last at the university.
The Clarion-Ledger reports “sources close to Jones’ side of the continuing negotiations say he would have been required to resign after those two years — an offer he rejected.” Terms for a university president are usually four years.
Clay Chandler and Jerry Mitchell’s article also states Jones has made a counter-offer to accept the two-year deal with a full review of his work in 2017. If the board was still not satisfied with his progress after the review, Jones would willfully resign.
As of early Friday morning, no deal has been made to renew the contract. Negotiations have been ongoing between Jones, Commissioner of Higher Education Jim Borsig and other members of the Ole Miss and IHL communities.
