The Oxford Chargers captured their second state championship Thursday night at Trustmark Park in Pearl as they handily defeated George County 9-0.

Oxford (35-1) got the bats heated up early in the game by taking an early lead on the Rebels. The Chargers tallied 12 hits against three different hurlers for George County.

When Jason Barber took the mound for Oxford, the offense had already given him a three-run lead to work with and that’s all he would need. Barber threw a complete game with seven strikeouts and not giving up a walk to the Rebels.

George County was able to scratch a few hits against the Chargers starter but not until the fourth inning. The Rebels only got a total of three hits in the game. Barber finished the 2015 season with a perfect 12-0 record.

After the game, Oxford head coach Chris Baughman said he had to give all the credit to his team after the way the came ready to play this week, outscoring the Rebels 13-0 in the two games.

The Chargers were led at the dish in the series by Jack McClure, who had three hits at the plate, while teammate Grae Kessinger had a triple and 3 RBIs.

After the fantastic start to this season, the 2015 Diamond Chargers are the best team to step between the chalk in school history.
